J & H Friend – Company History
Established in 1860, J & H Friend Removals and Storage was started by Thomas Friend in Forest Row, East Sussex.
Originally carriers of fresh produce, furniture and other items between their base at Wall Hill Farm, Forest Row and London’s Borough market. The trip would have been made by horse and cart, later, using traction engines, travelling one day and returning the next, undertaking this journey twice a week, making collections and deliveries on route. The warehouses have origins from this period but have been improved and extended over the last 150 years. A self storage facility was opened in early 2001 and further expansion is planned.
Today’s business is different with modern vehicles and warehouses but the London and home counties service remains, moving both full and part loads and single items for people locally and around the country.
